...when a middle-aged man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts about end of year music polls and reckonings.
Here's the 6music run-down and it's fair to say whilst several of these artists have been in the suburbs of my conscious, this has been a year when new stuff has mostly passed me by. I think I'll be strong on 45s and almost non-existent on 33s this year.

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - GNT
I'm enjoying this. Where does "hard rock" live on the radio these days anyway?

Thom Yorke - Suspirium
I think this is rather lovely. Unusually for a Thom Yorke song I'm not sure I could pick out a single lyric after hearing it but it doesn't seem to matter. Who can tell me what the solo instrument is around the 2.20 mark?

Bowie (who else)
I don't think we really acknowledged how good this is when it was released. Don't be put off by the 10 minute duration. It sounds great turned up loud.

This lot passed me by a bit
Despite being on 6 plenty. But I saw them at Kendall Calling and they were ace.
Local to you too Ray.

Next time around
This is more Scouse than a last minute penalty in front of the Kop....but I still love it.

James Blake - Don't Miss It
This is nice from [Lauren Laverne Voice] James Blunt. Quite a cool video too...I like a video with lyrics/

Johnny Marr - Hi Hello - Official Music Video [HD]
Hard to ignore the echoes of 'There Is A Light....' (sans killer lyric) but still a nice listen.
Can you post a comment if you get an email telling you about this one, I didn't get one for last night's post.

Orbital - Tiny Foldable Cities
Another dance tune, this has really grown on me with regular airplay.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays
....in the increasingly congested "this sounds like a Prince 80s track" category, this is a belter.

Jon Hopkins - Emerald Rush (Official Video)
This is great. Might even qualify for the now defunct "Best Video" category too.

Wiggy Giggy
I like the idea that they might have started off thinking "we need a sort of 'Wiggy Giggy' sound right through this". and after trying loads of effects and instruments settled on saying "Wiggy Giggy" throughout.

Alone Again (Natura-diddly)
Sam and I are off to see Moz tonight and whilst the last set-list comprising 9 tracks from the recent not-very-good album isn't too appetising, I'll be hoping he repeats this little bit of Gilbert O'Sullivan.

The Good Place
For the Netflixers amongst you this is really good and genuinely funny. Ted Danson is excellent as David Gooda in his 70s.

Get Out
Finally got round to watching this last night. Very good, well worth 90 minutes of your time.

Note from January Sam to December Sam
If Inside No 9 ISN'T your best teevee series, then I'm looking forward to what is.
JAPW
One of those songs that you hear a few times without really paying attention, and then you catch it on the radio and realise that it is in fact really rather lovely...

Songs you never hear on the radio...
OK, so Lammo pleasantly surprised me with this one. Think I had it on some Creation collection, and it went on a few mix tapes in its time.
It's paper-thin, but I always really liked the bits that go in and out of the chorus.
