2. Royal Blood - "Loose Change"
3. Smashing Pumpkins - "Being Beige"

"2312" by Kim Stanley Robinson. But I want to read "Everyone Poos".

Best Gig
I'm going to see Neil's new band, The Retro Collective, who I believe are a blues combo, play on 27 December as part of my birthday celebrations. As this will be the only 'gig' I've been to this year, it would be rude not to nominate it.

Best TV Programme
After a bit of a dip during seasons 2 and 3, "Homeland" has seen a tremendous return to form for season 4. And Doctor Who, of course.

Sam - Barts 2014

NB: These aren’t very well ordered, it’s more of a representative selection of music, and specifically music that it’s good to work to. So, it’s not necessarily all that challenging either…

Best Album
Future Islands - Singles
War on Drugs – Lost in the Dream
Todd Terje – It’s Album Time
Gruff Rhys – American Interior
St Vincent – St Vincent

Best Song

Best Sporting Moment
Winning the title. Again.

Revelation
My eye-wateringly expensive office chair. Not a cure, but a real salve for back-knack.

Worst Purchase / Disappointment
I’ve tried very hard to love the new Elbow album. It’s a lot better, but something is missing still.

Best Child-Related Thing
Getting Cary on a proper bike. Family cycles (usually to/from pubs) are the future.

Best Lifestyle Change
Moving to what is hopefully home for the long term. Tonnes to do, but the luxury of time in which to do it properly.

Via Spotify I have listened to a greater variety of new (and new-to-me-music) music than I have for many years.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Being Beige (Audio)

I've been reluctant to post this after criticising the 6Music policy of abandoning critical faculties for bands of yore and praising their (usually uninspired) latest offerings....but this is a really good Pumpkins song and just a really good pop song.

St Vincent

So as the leaves fall from the trees and young men's thoughts turn to best of the year lists, here's one that was criminally left off here at the time of release.

Radio Recommendation

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04l0x01

Mark Watson Talks A Bit About Life. Very funny - you have 3 weeks left to listen.

Sam TTTT Track 3

I highly recommend all 6:16 of this.

Sam's TTTT Track 2

Madness - "Our House". That's Madness - "Our House".

Saturday 25 October 2014

Andrew's TTT Track 2

I think you need to listen (and there's a clue there) to them side-by-side to get the theme.

Wednesday 22 October 2014

Nice polo neck Andrew

This is ace. Andrew will recognise his 1990s pioneering self in it...

Sunday 19 October 2014

new Viz character

I wonder if the artist attended the same aborted gig as us Sam?

Thursday 9 October 2014

This week, I've mostly been listening to "Tied to a Star" by J Mascis. Me Again

Friday 3 October 2014

Honeyblood - Choker

And this is rather good too

BRONCHO "Class Historian"

Probably the very definition of a one-hit-wonder (he'll never get to to do these vocal stylings again)...but I like this a lot.

Gig - The Pixies

Went to this last Thursday at Castlefield Bowl in Manchester. Decent venue messrs Kelly and Monteath if you get the chance to go.

Support were Royal Blood who were very good, Maximo Park who were the epitome of "meh" (what were they doing on the line-up....bought their way on??).

Pixies were excellent, we'd got the new album and subjected to repeated listening so it was all familiar stuff.

Thursday 12 June 2014

I say hello...

Good stuff. But once someone has put the alternative "Mr Tumble" lyric in your head, it's hard to shake off.

Awayland

Procured very late in 2013 this didn't make the cut for my Barts. However it is undoubtedly one of the best albums of the last 12 months.

Friday 11 April 2014

Something for the weekend

Liking this a lot. Playing Hebden next week (with Butler) - am tempted to go just to hear this...

Thursday 10 April 2014

Super (not furry)

A real grower. Have been expecting a post from TGC on this...

Wednesday 26 March 2014

RK TTTT II

On reflection maybe I ought to have pitched this as number one...

RK: TTTT

So here is my (much easier than Sam's) TTTT that Radconie have chosen to ignore:

Tuesday 25 March 2014

2 x Broken Bells

Sounds like a nightmare for the Big Ben curator but is in fact some highly polished dance pop

Monday 24 March 2014

Take off and landing...

I suspect that I'm the only one to have procured the new Elbow album, so I thought a short review would be in order. Firstly, it's better than the last one. Quite a lot better. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's very good. Up until the last three tracks, which don't do anything for me. On that basis pop pickers it's a 7/10.

Friday 21 March 2014

Midlake - It's Going Down

No official video for this one, but a nice tune to play in the background. Lovely organ work.

TTTT 3

Since I have evidently fully grasped your attention, I shall let you move back from the edge of your seats.

Tea Time Theme Time

Given on Radmac doing my latest Tea Time Theme Time (or maybe I missed it).

So you lot can have a go.
