a) were any of the cinema films any good? I heard World War Z was dreadful. ii) what are you driving these days? 3) Ian Banks or Iain M Banks? I fear the latter.
ReplyDeletea) Much of the criticism levelled at World War Z came before most people had seen it, as it has very little to do with the book (which is excellent). It's a shame, as I think the film, if it had remained true to the source text, could have been fantastic, but in the end what you got was a competent summer blockbuster. I enjoyed it, but you have to try to put the book as far from your mind as possible.
ReplyDeleteStar Trek Into Darkness was good, if you like that sort of thing, but I prefer the previous film.
Worlds End was OK. If you compare it with the other films in what Pegg and Frost call the 'Cornetto Trilogy', I think it's better than 'Hot Fuzz' but not a patch on 'Shaun of the Dead'.
The one film I really wanted to see this year was 'Rush', but I'll have to wait for the DVD now.
ii) Peugeot 307 SW
3) M is my preference. I'm not sure you have to be a Sci-Fi Geek to enjoy the 'M' works - it should be noted that I don't really read much other Sci-Fi - but it probably helps. I, personally, don't find it much different from his non-sci-fi work, you just have to get your head around some of the funny names and scientific terminology which, in my opinion, is probably no more of an ask than trying to get your head around the colloquial scottishness used in Irvine Welsh's books, for instance.
